About Carsey

A gift from University of New Hampshire alumna and noted television producer Marcy Carsey '66 established the Carsey Institute for Families and Communities in May 2002. In May 2004, the new director and small staff began moving the Institute forward, guided by its mission to support interdisciplinary policy research in the social and health fields. Recognizing that America's families and communities are undergoing profound changes as we enter the 21st century, the Carsey Institute supports research that informs policy makers and practitioners engaged in increasing opportunities for social mobility and building healthy, sustainable communities.

The Carsey Institute supports research on families and communities and also provides resources to University faculty and students interested in interdisciplinary research. Carsey faculty, staff and affiliated centers conduct research on families and communities in a range of program areas important to the region as well as national policy makers. The Institute offers decision makers in northern New England data analysis and timely reports on trends affecting families and communities in the region, as well as research tools and policy seminars. At UNH, Carsey provides resources and programs to support faculty development for research in the social sciences and health fields, and also provides opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in interdisciplinary policy research on families and communities and to engage directly in programs working with families and communities.
